What is EORI?
EORI is the abbreviation of Economic Operator Registration and Identification, which is translated into Chinese as Economic Entity Registration Identification Number. Its main function is to facilitate the customs of EU member states to identify economic entities in import and export activities and facilitate administrative supervision.
All European companies engaged in import and export activities must have an EORI number. In France, the EORI number is mainly used in various electronic declaration procedures of the customs system PRO.DOUANE.
Is it mandatory to obtain EORI?
The EORI number is a unique identification number for an economic entity within the EU and is valid throughout the EU. Therefore, sellers only need to choose one EU country within which you operate to submit an application for an EORI number and use that number to declare the import and export of goods.
For cross-border sellers operating in the EU, if you have registered a VAT number and are operating in compliance, you must submit your EORI number to the local customs when processing your goods import and export declarations. If you wish to claim input VAT credits for your business activities, you must use your own EORI number for customs clearance.
How to obtain EORI:
For companies operating in France, EORI number registration is done by the company submitting an application to the relevant local authority PAE. Once approved, the company's EORI number will be simultaneously updated in the European Commission's database.
There are two ways to apply for an EORI number: log in and apply through the online platform, or fill out the form directly and send it to the competent authority via email.
