What is BSCI factory audit?
BSCI factory audit refers to BSCI (Business Social Compliance Initiative), which advocates the business community to comply with social responsibility organizations to conduct social responsibility audits on global suppliers of BSCI members. It mainly includes: compliance with laws, freedom of association and collective bargaining rights, prohibition of discrimination, compensation, working hours, workplace safety, prohibition of child labor, prohibition of forced labor, environment and safety and other issues.
Currently, BSCI has more than 1,300 members from 11 countries, most of whom are European retailers and buyers. They will actively promote their suppliers in various countries around the world to accept BSCI factory audits in order to improve the human rights conditions of their suppliers.
BSCI factory audit participation conditions:
Only independent audit companies that have passed the SAI qualification level accreditation and are selected by BSCI will be entrusted to implement BSCI social responsibility audits. This ensures the best possible audit quality while avoiding expensive and bureaucratic appraisal procedures.
In addition to SAI certification, audit companies selected by FTA to implement BSCI social responsibility supervision must meet certain prerequisites and comply with certain conditions.
The audit company selected for BSCI certification must exist in the region where the most important suppliers are located and have sufficient agencies to implement supervision and audit activities. This is necessary both in terms of region-specific experience and optimization of the audit process.
The auditing company must sign a written contract with BSCI to establish the contractual terms of cooperation between the two parties.
BSCI factory audit implementation process:
1. Registration
After receiving an email from a customer requesting the factory to undergo a BSCI audit (an email generated by the BSCI system), the factory must first register in the BSCI system and obtain a unique DBID number for the factory.
1. If your end customer is a member of BSCI, the end customer can help the factory register on the BSCI official website system;
2. If your end customer is not a member of BSCI, you will need to find a consulting company or a third-party auditing agency to help you complete the registration process. When choosing an auditing agency to help the factory register, the factory must understand clearly whether the customer has a designated auditing agency. If there is, choose a designated auditing agency for registration. If not, the factory can choose it itself or seek a consulting company to help you register.
2. RSP authorization operation: The end customer authorizes the factory in the BSCI system and classifies the factory into its own supplier group. If you want to know more about RSP, you can check out What is RSP authorization. After completing the RSP authorization operation, the BSCI official website will send it to the factory by email.
3. Request operation: After determining which auditing agency will audit the factory, the customer will perform a confirmation operation in the BSCI system. Only the auditing agency authorized by the customer can audit the factory. After completing the above series of operations, the application for BSCI factory audit is completed. The next step is to pay the audit agency and wait for the audit agency to come to the factory for an on-site audit.
