What is Snapchat?
Snapchat is a photo-sharing app developed by two students from Stanford University. Using the app, users can take photos, record videos, add text and drawings, and send them to their friends list on the app. These photos and videos are called "Snaps", and users of the software call themselves "snubs".
The most important function of the Snapchat application is that all photos have a lifespan of 1 to 10 seconds. After users take photos and send them to friends, these photos will be automatically destroyed on time according to the time set by the users. Furthermore, if the recipient attempts to take a screenshot during this period, the user will also be notified. Beijing time, October 13, 2016, Snapchat's parent company Snap has selected the lead underwriter for its IPO (initial public offering), and the company will launch its IPO as early as March 2017. Morgan Stanley and Goldman Sachs will lead Snap's IPO.
Snapchat features usage:
Snapchat attracts users with the privacy of its products, which is only the first step in realizing value. The broader market it faces is a product type that has long been absent from the US market: instant messaging. Snapchat's initial appeal was not that images could be erased, but that they could be sent faster than text messages or even other sharing tools.
Domestic Snapchat-like applications such as "Kacha" chose the field of stranger social networking, that is, reducing the psychological burden of communicating with strangers by using the feature that information cannot be saved. But this is only in the trial stage, and there is no result to prove the feasibility of this model.
Snapchat's ambition to create a new generation of social platform is gradually revealed in some of its new features, such as the Stories feature, which is very similar to Facebook's information flow, meaning that users can not only share photos with individuals, but also share them in their own Stories for friends to view publicly. These contents can also stay in Stories for 24 hours before disappearing.
