What is BSMI certification?
BSMI is the abbreviation of “Bureau of Standards, Metrology and Inspection” of the Bureau of Standards, Metrology and Inspection of the Ministry of Economic Affairs of Taiwan. According to the announcement of Taiwan's Ministry of Economic Affairs, starting from July 1, 2005, products entering Taiwan will be subject to supervision in terms of electromagnetic compatibility and safety regulations.
What are the application methods for BSMI certification?
BSMI application methods: There are currently three application methods.
1. Type approval includes two types:
1. Type Approval (EMC+Safety). From January 1, 2004, 178 types of electronic and electrical products need to apply for this type of approval. Applicable standards: EMC+Safety. Documents required include (product type approval application, company or factory license, test report, technical documents for electromagnetic compatibility: photos, labels, parts with electromagnetic interference, block diagrams and user manuals, and technical documents for safety regulations). Certificate validity period: three years, extendable once.
2. EMC type approval (replacing the original EMC application) will be mandatory from November 1, 2002. Applicable products: 61 electronic and electrical products only have EMI requirements, and 124 electronic and electrical products only need EMI + safety reports (if the product has safety requirements). Applicable standards: EMI only. The documents required to be provided are (electromagnetic compatibility type approval application, test report, technical documents: photos, labels, electromagnetic compatible parts, block diagram and user manual).
2. Certification and Registration
Enforcement date: not yet announced, applicable standards: EMI + safety regulations. The documents that need to be provided include (product type approval application, company or factory license, test report, technical documents for electromagnetic compatibility: photos, labels, parts with electromagnetic interference, block diagrams and user manuals, as well as technical documents for safety regulations and declaration of conformity). Certificate validity period: three years, extendable once
3. Declaration of Conformity
Enforcement date: January 18, 2002. Applicable products: 19 types of information technology equipment components. Applicable standards: CNS13438 (ONLYEMC). The documents that need to be provided are (declaration of conformity, test report, technical documents: photos, labels, parts with electromagnetic interference, block diagram and user manual). No certificate.
