The aim of BattG is to increase the recycling rate of batteries, as they contain valuable substances as well as substances that are harmful to the environment and health. The manufacturer, distributor or importer of batteries is required by law to contribute to the costs of disposal (product liability or responsibility to take back and dispose of the batteries). For this purpose, a common recycling system for batteries (GRS Batteries) has been set up and a register has been established with the Federal Environment Agency.
