Is Amazon UPC code necessary? Frequently asked questions about Amazon UPC codes!

According to Amazon's regulations, not all products need to submit UPC codes. Only the North American site needs to submit the UPC code, while the European site needs to provide the EAN code. However, even on the US site, not all products require UPC codes. The categories that require UPC codes to add products are as follows:

Camera and Photo, Electronics, Grocery, Home and Garden, Office Products, Pet Supplies, Software, Video Games.

The products and categories that do not need to submit Amazon UPC codes mainly include: private goods, produced by non-state registered company factories; small product parts and accessories with special functional uses; B2B retail goods in distribution stores; customer customized goods. If you sell this type of product, you can apply to Amazon to be exempted from using UPC codes when uploading products.

Although some special products are exempt from Amazon UPC codes, basically all products require a UPC code before they can be listed. As to whether a specific product needs to provide a UPC code, please refer to the current regulations on the Amazon website.

What should I pay attention to when using UPC codes?

1. For the UPC code you purchased, you can check the results on the website of the Uniform Code Council of the United States. The URL is as follows: http://gepir.gs1.org/v32/xx/gtin.aspx?Lang=en-US

2. Formal barcodes are obtained by company entities through application, and government agencies grant an authorization certificate for a barcode range, rather than one certificate for each barcode.

3. If you buy a barcode from Company A, and the GS1 query results show that the company it belongs to is Company B or another company, then your complaint on Amazon will not be effective, as Amazon will believe that you are not the owner of the UPC. On the contrary, you will be complained by Company B and your product will be removed from the shelves.

4. If you don’t want to fill in or buy the UPC code, another way is to register the brand and then register it. After the brand registration is completed, Amazon will give the seller a GCID code. This GCID code is equivalent to the UPC code in each of the seller’s listings.

5. UPC code can be replaced by ENA code. In other words, if your product uses the globally accepted ENA code, you can upload it to the North American site.
