Amazon temporarily closes New Jersey warehouse due to increase in coronavirus cases

It is reported that employees of the warehouse received a notice from Amazon last Saturday. Lisa Levandowski, a spokesperson for the company, said in a statement that Amazon employees will still receive wages during the closure of the warehouse.

Lisa Lewandowski said that through Amazon's internal coronavirus testing program, the company detected an increase in the number of asymptomatic positive cases at the PNE5 warehouse in northern New Jersey. Out of an abundance of caution, Amazon has proactively closed the warehouse until December 26.

But she declined to say how many employees at the warehouse had been infected, or whether the warehouse would undergo additional cleaning during its closure.

Amazon disclosed in October this year that nearly 20,000 of its front-line employees had been infected with the new coronavirus from March 1 to September 19.

According to foreign media reports, recently, Dave Clark, head of Amazon's retail business, wrote a letter to the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, hoping that the company's front-line employees can receive the new coronavirus vaccine as soon as possible. Dave Clark stated in the letter that during the epidemic, Amazon's front-line employees played a vital role in helping consumers obtain necessary living supplies.
