Package Fees and Charges
When you view the Shopify Basic, Shopify, and Shopify Advanced pricing plans, you can see various rates and fees, such as monthly prices, credit card rates, and transaction fees. Even if your store is based outside of the United States, you'll be billed in US dollars.
Monthly Price
The monthly price is the recurring subscription cost to use Shopify and varies depending on the plan you choose. The prices associated with the plan you select are included in the bill issued at the end of the allotted billing period.
If you sign up for a one-, two-, or three-year billing cycle, you can get a discount on the subscription cost.
Remark
Subscription fees are non-refundable. For more information, see Shopify's Terms of Service.
Credit card rates
For a small fee, Shopify lets you accept major credit cards, like Visa and Mastercard, as a payment method on your store. You do not need to pay any fees to the credit card payment service provider. These fees vary depending on whether you pay online or through Shopify POS, because the security and risks of online payments are different than in-person payments.
Credit card rates vary depending on the package selected.
Transaction Fees
Transaction fees are the fees you pay for each transaction when you use a third-party payment provider to collect payments from customers. This fee covers the cost of Shopify's integration with external payment providers.
Like credit card rates, transaction fees vary depending on the plan you choose.
hint:
You can avoid paying transaction fees by activating Shopify Payments, Shopify's own payment provider.
Payment Service Providers
Payment service providers offer services that transfer your customers' funds to you. Credit card payment providers allow your customers to pay using credit cards. If you want to accept credit card payments from your customers, then you can set up Shopify Payments or a third-party payment provider.
Shopify Payments
Shopify has its own payment provider, Shopify Payments, which integrates directly with your checkout. If your business is eligible for Shopify Payments:
You only pay the credit card rate, no other transaction fees
Your customers can enter their payment information at checkout without leaving your online store.
You can set up Shopify Payments directly from your Shopify admin without logging into another website or account.
You can view your payouts directly from your Shopify admin.
If you want to offer your customers another way to pay, such as through PayPal or a custom payment method, then you can set up those payment methods in addition to Shopify Payments without paying any additional transaction fees.
Third-party payment service providers
If Shopify Payments isn't available in your country or you don't want to use it, then you can activate one of the third-party payment providers that are integrated with Shopify. A transaction fee will be charged in this case.
After you decide which payment provider you want to use from the available options, you can configure your payment settings in your Shopify admin.
Billing cycle
A billing cycle is the 30-day interval in which Shopify bills you for your plan. You can’t choose the date of your billing, but you can extend your billing cycle to a longer interval (one, two, or three years) to get a discount.
App subscriptions are on a different billing cycle, so their billing cycle might not always match the billing dates of your Shopify subscription billing cycle.
If you're pausing or closing your store, be sure to cancel your app subscriptions as well to avoid additional charges in the future.
