Bebo is a social networking site launched in 2005. It now describes itself as "a company that dreams of becoming a fun social application company." In early 2014 and in December 2014, a new version of Bebo was launched which included a hashtag messaging application.
Bebo was founded in January 2005 by husband and wife duo Michael and Xochi Birch in their home in San Francisco. The site has since surpassed MySpace to become the most widely used social networking site in the UK, with at least 10.7 million unique users. The site is also popular in Ireland, with 1 million Irish users, making it the most visited website in Ireland. In 2008, it was sold to AOL for $850 million.
