Plurk, whose Chinese name is Plurk, is a social networking site that provides a timeline-based visual microblogging service with multi-language support, similar to Twitter, created by an organization called A-team. Its biggest feature is that it displays message updates and replies from yourself and your friends on a timeline. Plurk is quite popular in Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan, but has been unavailable in mainland China since April 2009.
What are the features of Plurk?
1. Karma value: Karma is the heat value in Plurk. Having high Karma can enjoy more services, such as additional expressions, creatures in the upper right corner of the timeline, etc.
Posting high-quality plurk updates, having plurk updates replied to, staying active, and inviting friends to successfully register can all increase Karma; but long-term inactivity, friends rejecting registration invitations, and posting too many plurks will reduce Karma.
2. Similar to Twitter, you can post comments and reply to friends' updates in a targeted manner. All these updates and replies will be displayed on a timeline, and the timeline can be dragged at will. An update message is called a Plurk.
3. Plurk reply prompt: if your updated status is replied by others, there will be a reply number prompt on the page.
4. You can add other people who send verification requests to you as friends or fans; you can send friend requests to others, or follow others like Twitter.
5. Customize the page CSS style. You can freely change the timeline background and control panel background. The page title can be customized only when the Karma value reaches 10.
6. Diversified forms and methods of status updates: support page login updates, and also support mobile phone text message updates like Twitter. Plurk limits the number of characters for each update to within 140, updates can insert emoticons, and updates support encryption.
7. Qualifiers: Qualifiers are words represented by various colors. We have selected some common words of our members as qualifiers. You can use qualifiers to start a plurk. They make it easier for you to identify different kinds of plurks. You can easily tell your friends how you <feel>, what you <think> about, what you <love>, or what you <have> done.
8. Multi-language support, supporting dozens of languages including Simplified Chinese.
9. Support mobile wap login (mobile version of Plurk).
10. You can add Plurk to your personal blog like Twitter, or you can automatically synchronize Plurk update messages to third-party microblogs such as Twitter and Facebook (you need to set up an account and password for the third-party service).
