MSDS (Material Safety Data Sheet) is a material safety data sheet, which can also be translated as a chemical safety technical sheet or a chemical safety data sheet. It is a document used by chemical manufacturers and importers to explain the physical and chemical properties of chemicals (such as pH value, flash point, flammability, reactivity, etc.) and the possible hazards to the health of users (such as carcinogenicity, teratogenicity, etc.).
In European countries, Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) is also called Safety Data Sheet (SDS). The International Organization for Standardization (ISO) uses the term SDS, while the United States, Canada, Australia and many Asian countries use the term MSDS. In order to align with the international standard eqvISO110-14-1:1994(E), China has also formulated the relevant standard GB/T16483-2008 "Contents and Item Sequence of Chemical Safety Data Sheets", which stipulates that MSDS must have sixteen parts.
Requirements for the preparation and use of chemical safety data sheets:
1. Writing requirements: The sixteen major items specified in the safety technical instructions cannot be deleted or merged at will during writing, and their order cannot be changed at will. The main text of the safety data sheet should be expressed in simple, clear and easy-to-understand standard Chinese characters. Digital data must be accurate, reliable, systematic and comprehensive.
2. Type: The safety data sheet is written in the manner of "one card for one variety". The technical data sheets of the same type and homologues cannot replace each other; the hazardous components and their content ranges must be filled in for mixtures. The data filled in should be reliable and well-founded. When a chemical has more than one hazard, its primary and secondary hazards as well as first aid and protective measures should be comprehensively stated.
3. Use: The safety data sheet is compiled by the manufacturer and supplier of the chemical and provided to the user when the product is delivered. It is circulated in the market along with the product as a service to the user. When receiving and using chemicals, users of chemicals should carefully read the technical instructions, understand and grasp the hazards of the chemicals, formulate safe operating procedures based on the circumstances of use, select appropriate protective equipment, and train operators.
4. Reliability of information: The values and information in the safety technical manual must be accurate and reliable, and the selected reference materials must be authoritative.
