Amazon India launches Marketplace Appstore for sellers, bringing together a variety of useful tools

It is reported that Amazon launched the Amazon Marketplace Appstore in India on August 12 to help sellers automate, increase orders and manage their businesses. Through Amazon Seller Central, the platform’s app store will allow sellers to browse and filter 13 categories, including accounting and tax remittance, inventory and order management, e-commerce solution connectors, and more. This app store is very different from the well-known Appstore in function. The Marketplace Appstore will not be open to end consumers, but is designed specifically for sellers and only appears in the seller's store backend.

Gopal Pillai, Vice President, Selling Services, Amazon India said, “The platform is designed to intuitively connect the right developers with the right sellers, ensuring success for both parties. We want to be the preferred solution for sellers so that they can access business tools for their various needs and minimize the time, effort, and money spent on finding and experimenting with the right solution. The apps on the Amazon Marketplace Appstore are proven and reliable, and we believe this will help sellers and developers scale their businesses.”

The Amazon Marketplace Appstore will offer up to 100 applications from around the world. Indian sellers will be able to explore features including browsing apps from Amazon and third parties. Sellers will also be able to discover relevant solutions for their business, authorize data access, and complete their purchases. This will help reduce the time and effort sellers spend searching for the right solution for specific needs, such as finding a logistics partner, shipping provider, or sales analytics tool.

From a developer's perspective, an app store will allow them to reach customers with less effort. Once they pass the registration and evaluation process, developers will be invited to list their apps in the store.

It is understood that in early July, Amazon invested 2.8 billion rupees in its Indian market business. This is also the first capital injection received by Amazon's Indian market after the Indian government released the draft e-commerce policy in February this year.
