eBay Germany launches pilot program for individual sellers to receive points

On July 12, eBay Germany announced the launch of a pilot "points reward" program for individual sellers. The program aims to further expand C2C business, promote the circular economy, and improve user retention.

It is reported that under this plan, individual sellers will receive 5% of the product sales price as points, and can use the points to redeem purchased goods on the eBay platform. eBay noted that through this program, users will be able to sell things they no longer need through the platform and buy things they need, thereby promoting a circular economy.

Previously, the introduction of managed payments had caused strong dissatisfaction among individual sellers towards eBay. In response, eBay reduced fees for individual sellers using managed payments in May and cut the fixed portion of the sales commission from 0.35 euros to 0.05 euros for orders under 10 euros. It is reported that eBay launched the pilot program of "points rewards" for individual sellers in the hope of getting closer to individual sellers.

Here’s how the program works:

Sellers participating in the program can earn 5 points for every euro of the price of the goods sold, with a maximum of 15,000 points per item. When redeeming points, 100 points can be exchanged for 1 EUR and the available amount will be shown below the amount to be paid in the shopping cart. There is no minimum order value when redeeming.

In addition, the redeemable points are valid for 60 days. When another transaction is completed, the validity period will be extended for another 60 days. If the pilot program is terminated by eBay, the points will remain valid for another 60 days. eBay has not yet given an end date.

Notably, categories such as coins, product warranties and insurance, aftermarket parts, automobiles, motorcycles and other vehicles, real estate, powerboats, sailboats, personal watercraft, other watercraft and aircraft are not included in the program.
