Amazon notifies that these products cannot be sold without proof

Some sellers have received notices requiring them to provide additional information and relevant certifications for the electronic devices they are selling, otherwise they will not be able to continue selling the products.

An email received by a seller on the Japanese site showed that in order to allow buyers to shop safely on the Amazon website, Amazon is implementing an approval process to confirm that certain GITEKI products posted on its website comply with safety requirements in applicable laws. The seller received the email because of the GITEKI products he was selling.

What is GITEKI?

Sellers on the Japanese site know that laptops, routers, landlines, mobile phones, Bluetooth headsets and other products need to be GITEKI certified as long as they are sold in Japan. Merchants also need to affix or print the GITEKI logo and the issued number on the certified products. Selling directly in Japan without this certification is illegal and may result in severe penalties. In other words, this is a mandatory certification.

Amazon said in the email that if sellers want to continue selling GITEKI products on the Amazon website, they must submit the following information to [email protected] using the email address that received this email before September 30, 2018.

At the same time, if the seller publishes GITEKI products in the wrong category, Amazon will remove the products from the platform:

1. Drone products

Restricted drone products have the following characteristics: equipped with batteries, power supply units and radio equipment for radio control

2. Smart plug products

A limited smart plug is one that can be used as both a power device and a wireless device.

3. Home camera products

Restricted home cameras have the following characteristics: equipped with batteries, power supply and radio equipment controlled by remote control. These cameras are sold as ultra-compact cameras, standard security cameras, dome security cameras, and home surveillance systems, among others.

If the seller wants to continue selling the above products on the Japanese site, they need to submit the following 1-5 pieces of information to [email protected] for review:

1. Your company name

2. Your contact information: contact name, title, email address and phone number

3. A list of the ASINs (10-digit numbers starting with B, which can be confirmed on Seller Central) that you wish to continue selling on our website

4. Certificate of Conformity (issued by a registered conformity assessment body)

5. Photo of the label containing the GITEKI logo (the GITEKI logo must be clearly visible)

However, if the product is equipped with a weak radio device, the seller needs to replace 4 and 5 above with any of the following information:

(a) Weak radio equipment compliance mark (ELP mark or TELEC mark)

(b) Documentation indicating that the product is compatible with weak radio equipment

Japan is not the only site that has strict control over product safety certification. Some sellers on the German site reported that they were recently rejected for category review of German seasonal lamps after uploading materials multiple times due to unqualified materials. Some sellers on the British site reported that Amazon randomly checked their electronic products and found that they were in an application category that required a battery sub-classification, and the fact that the relevant materials did not comply with the applicable EN standards became a common problem encountered by both.
