There are outstanding people and ordinary people in every industry and every position. At the same age, some people are already company executives, earning high salaries; others are still at the bottom, earning meager salaries.
Many of the sellers around me choose to be Amazon sellers, largely because they have encountered career bottlenecks and embarked on this different route. Some people do really well after graduation, but some people find that they are not as good as when they were working before. Why is this happening?
Because your habits have never changed. When you work in a company, you are a brick-mover, day after day, year after year, doing the same thing every day, from nine to six, and occasionally working overtime. It’s the same when I started working at Amazon. My daily work is still very mechanical and requires no technical skills. Your product is copied from others, your listing is also copied from others, and your advertising cannot be copied, so your ACOS becomes very high, resulting in you not making any money, and then you call Amazon a blood-sucking ghost.
But shouldn’t we ask ourselves: after you entered the Amazon industry, have your level and ability improved? Do you have your own core competitiveness? How is your product selection ability? Has your data analysis ability improved?
If not, you deserve it for not doing well! The competition in the cross-border e-commerce industry is getting more and more intense, and those born after 2000 have started to work. If we continue in this state, we won’t be able to find a job in the future, let alone work for Amazon.
So what capabilities should we strive to improve as Amazon operators?
1. Product selection ability
Everyone knows that "70% depends on product selection and 30% depends on operations." But have we really carefully selected products? How much time do we spend on product selection every day? How many competing products have we researched? Have we carefully analyzed the good and bad reviews of competing products? Have we analyzed how big the market is for the product and how much profit it will make?
Have we carefully read the product selection articles written by others on the Internet? Have we recorded their experiences? Have we summarized our own product selection methods?
If you haven't done any of the above work, no pie in the sky will ever fall on your head. “Every disease can be cured by a doctor”, and the same goes for product selection. No one can guarantee that the product they choose will be a hit, but accumulated experience can bring you infinitely close.
2. Language and writing skills
Some sellers say that their English is not good, but since you have chosen to sell on Amazon, you should improve your English if it is not good! If you copy the copy of a competitor's product, do you need to optimize it after copying it? Do you need to copy from several more companies and integrate them to avoid being complained?
If your English foundation is good, shouldn’t you strive for more authentic and professional writing when writing listing copy? High-quality copy will undoubtedly increase the conversion rate of the listing. When you encounter order problems or account status, and communicate with customers or Amazon customer service, will the problem be handled faster if you use professional language to communicate with the other party?
3. Data analysis capabilities
You can’t copy others’ data analysis, you can only rely on yourself. Amazon backend provides various data reports that can analyze traffic, sales, conversion rate, advertising data, etc. Can we find problems from the data? After finding the problems, can we find solutions?
Similarly, we can find learning methods on the Internet or participate in offline training, but what is more important is that we need to practice, explore, and then summarize by ourselves. If you turn these skills into your own abilities, you will be irreplaceable.
4. Ability to control the overall situation
Some operators have created several hit products while working in the company and think they are very powerful. But you have to know that this may be the credit of this team. Behind it is the product team, the logistics team, the order-brushing evaluation team, the boss’s financial support, and so on. Without this support, you can’t do it alone.
Then we must learn to connect these points and form our own network, so that we can gradually transform from an operator to a trader with the ability to control the overall situation. If you are in a company, you can grow into a middle or senior manager; if you start your own business, you need to cultivate the ability to control the overall situation.
Running an Amazon store is equivalent to running a company! You need to know how to manage people, money, and materials. In addition to the abilities recommended above, there are many others that you need to pay attention to cultivating. Only in this way can we continue to survive in this highly competitive industry!
