Amazon sellers: What skills are needed to operate Amazon from the perspective of recruitment requirements

Recently, some friends who have just joined or are planning to join the industry have asked me, what abilities should I have to work on Amazon? Is it difficult?

In fact, this question is not easy to answer, because there are many friends around me who have switched to working for Amazon, and they really come from all walks of life. Some of them used to work in IT, some in design, some as product managers, some in marketing, some in factory production, and some who are more related used to work in traditional foreign trade and some worked in domestic Taobao.

Some of them were relatively successful, some failed and dropped out, but the majority are still struggling and moving forward.

So is it difficult? It’s difficult, not difficult, but it’s hard to define!

Regarding what abilities one should have to work on Amazon, I found an e-commerce company’s recruitment needs for Amazon operators on the Internet. The content is not very comprehensive, but I hope it can provide some inspiration to my confused friends.

1. Responsible for writing listing descriptions and putting products on shelves;

1) To write a listing description, you need to have certain copywriting or collection and collation skills, and a certain level of English or other language skills;

2) To put the product on the shelves, you need to master the operation steps of Amazon backend.

2. Responsible for Amazon sales management and maintenance;

Regardless of whether you are selling one product or multiple products, after the products are put on the shelves, you need to be responsible for listing optimization, advertising placement and optimization, product evaluation, and after-sales problem handling.

3. Responsible for the overall management and operation of the Amazon stores under your jurisdiction;

What this means is that you need to be responsible for product selection, product pricing, stocking, logistics, advertising, sales and other tasks. This section is quite broad, but a simple summary is that the entire store is handed over to you, and you have to find a way to make sure there are products to sell and make money after the sales.

4. Release the products that have been confirmed to be launched on Amazon and formulate product marketing plans;

Every time a product is launched, a marketing plan is required. For example, how much stock to prepare in the first batch, how much to take out for evaluation, how many evaluations to do, and what kind of rhythm to follow. For example, the first 200 products are not intended to make money, but are used to boost sales and rankings; the gross profit of the middle 300-1000 products can be below 20%; the gross profit of the last 1000 products must be higher than 30%, and so on.

5. Pay attention to and check the sales and ranking of products on the platform, and make corresponding adjustments in a timely manner;

Not only should we look at the sales and rankings of our own products, but we should also keep an eye on those of our competitors. This requires us to identify our competitors and see how they have changed, including whether the listing has been optimized, whether the price has changed, how the reviews have grown, changes in the BSR ranking, etc., and make corresponding adjustments based on the specific situation.

6.

Here, operators are required to think about the direction of product development during the work process, such as how to upgrade or innovate based on their existing products, or how to surpass competitors' products, or how to develop horizontally to discover other categories of products. In short, in addition to selling your own products well, you also need to have a certain business sense and be able to discover new opportunities in the market.

7. Be familiar with Amazon platform rules to avoid account closure, restrictions, etc.;

This requires operators to carefully study the platform's policies and rules, and not violate the rules while making reasonable use of them. This includes the store not being able to be linked, not being restricted due to manipulating reviews or variant violations, and not infringing on rights.

Do you think it is difficult after reading it? Yes, it is indeed difficult! But the actual process will be even more difficult than this, especially if you do it independently, you will encounter more obstacles and problems.

But there are still so many people out there doing it. If they can do it, why can't you? Either your determination is not enough, or you have other options.

Of course, working at Amazon is just one of millions of jobs, and doing it or not is a choice. Only by choosing to do what you are good at and interested in can you achieve success.
