To be honest, it is really difficult for Amazon sellers to select products, otherwise there would not be the saying that "70% is about product selection and 30% is about operations . " But the difficulty in product selection does not mean there is no solution. In order to choose the right product, we must focus on both product selection ideas and methods.
Product selection ideas:
1. Volume is the key to success. If you have not looked at and carefully analyzed hundreds or thousands of products when selecting products, what you think is difficult is simply the herd mentality and laziness caused by the various opinions. You have to cure this disease yourself. After carefully analyzing thousands of products, even difficult product selections will gradually gain some ideas and clues. Quantity is the key to success. Only when quantitative change leads to qualitative change can product selection produce results. I have personally selected nearly 8,000 products and sold them one by one on various platforms. Then I gradually screened and eliminated them, and precipitated dozens of SKUs in our own Amazon operations. I started with big and then small, first broad and then refined. After experiencing this, you will be more convinced that this seemingly simple and complicated path is the shortcut to product selection.
2. Don't underestimate small or cold objects. Needles, thread, cardboard, pins, tools (knives, drills, spears), etc. in daily life, some so common that you have forgotten about them, some so unpopular that you have never heard of them, may all be the market. Product selection should be market-oriented and based on data. As long as the platform data shows that the sales volume meets your current operational expectations and the profit is good after calculation under the current market price, it is worth your attention. Do not look down upon any product, because, as I often emphasize, as sellers, we have only one ideal - to make money. As long as it can bring you profit, this product is worth cherishing. Many times, after going through a lot of trouble, we will finally calm down and return to the familiar and ordinary things around us. Then, life returns to being ordinary, but also truly happy. This is true in life, and it is also true in product selection.
3. Here I have to mention again the twelve-word underlying thinking for product selection that I have repeatedly talked about in my daily offline courses: win by rigid demand, Tian Ji’s horse racing, and stay away from infringement. If you can grasp these three angles, the chances of successful product selection will be greatly improved.
Product selection method:
1. Market-oriented methods: such as the Best Sellers two-stage product selection method, the high-quality store hybrid replication method, etc. These are all good product selection methods that can quickly select products that have been tested by the market.
2. Multi-platform cross-method (platform migration method): Every hot-selling product has its own logic behind it. A product that sells very well on platform A may also sell well when moved to platform B. If you happen to find that the popularity of the two platforms is not synchronized, and at the same time analyze that the product also has demand on the platform that is not yet popular, you can quickly enter, create and promote it. The multi-platform here mainly refers to the comparison of the four platforms of eBay, AliExpress, Wish and Amazon. Of course, you can also refer to some local platforms in different countries and regions (such as Rakuten in Japan, Lazada in Southeast Asia, etc.), vertical segmentation platforms (such as the American handicraft platform Etsy), etc. If you can analyze and research the hot-selling products on these platforms, find products that are feasible on Amazon, and copy and operate them, you can also increase your chances of success.
3. Product selection method based on supplier recommendations: Compared to sellers’ familiarity with the market, many industry suppliers are just as familiar with products and markets. Therefore, as sellers, it is very necessary for us to communicate more with suppliers and ask them for advice. Sometimes, a word from a supplier or a good product can open up a new world for you.
4. Product selection method from fake order groups: Whether it is a Facebook fake order group or a fake order group, you might as well join one and have a look. It is not for fake orders, but to think about "Why do others use this product to fake orders?" Once you figure out this question, your perspective on product selection will be very different.
